My Journies—In Season & off Season Experiences @ Adam’s Peak

Though not the highest mountain of Sri Lanka, the striking pyramid of Adam’s Peak (7,360 ft) is certainly the most remarkable. A depression in the rocky summit resembles a huge footprint, which has been venerated as a sacred sigh from remote antiquity. This was identified by Buddhists as the Buddha’s footprint, by Hindus as that of Shiva, and by Muslims as Adam’s. Later the Portuguese attributed it to St. Thomas the Apostle.

IN SEASON Experience

When in season weather is really good.u can see the sun rise nicely.but when considering sun rise they are special situations.even in ‘IN Season’ sometimes you cant see it.meaning everyday its not gonna show.but in season its really worthy.more people, and small shops along the way all open.in season time is   December to May.if u choose to climb there in poya day(a public holiday in sri lanka – Buddhism holiday)you have free foods and drinks along the way to the top.

when you climbing there by using hatton road there are couple of water falls.but in season there are not very healthy.because no rain.

we used a train to get hatton and from hatton to Nallathanniya we used a bus.to Nallathanniya on a bus like 1hour and 20 mins.then started to climb at night.from hatton road its just only taking 2 and half or 3 hours to go top.

i have both experiences in in season and off season.when off season we climbed with heavy rain.but on the top no strong cool weather(when comparing to in season)but in season its really hard to stay on top.at mid night its going down temperature like 4 Celsius.not minus but really hard with that weather.shivering.

when consider about wind its not much stronger than off season.in off season its so heavy and there is a wind blowing place on the ratnapura road starting place on top.& you cant even goto there.its dangerous.

when you using ratnapura ,, its going through big forests.so when on the off season that is why its not using.because wild animals coming to the road.and its very long road to top and hard to using it if its going to rain. on ratnapura road no lights.so better to take a touch with you.

on hatton road there are lights and so no need any additional touches.

OFF SEASON Experiences……..

when on off season no much buses to Nallathanniya from hatton.when we getting there its like 7.15pm.so we took a bus to Maskeliya.from maskeliya we took a tuk tuk to Nallathanniya.it cost us 600 rupees.

Laxapana Falls (Lakshapana Falls)

Laxapana is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous waterfalls, and perhaps the one that has proven the most useful in terms of generating power to the country, the Lakshapana waterfall is located in Nuwara Eliya district in the country’s mountainous region.

The Laxapana Falls falls are 129m high and rise from the Laxapana estate and plunges into the Maskeliya Oya via Maoussakelle. The waters of this mountainous river are fast moving, rushing over huge boulders and rocks, gurgling across a multitude of small streams around the mountains before emerging as an awe-inspiring waterfall, especially during the monsoon season when the rivers are swollen and full.

Located along the pilgrim’s tour route to Adam’s Peak, Laxapana falls is a favourite stopping place for a rest, an open air meal or a quick bathe in the large natural pools formed in the valley below the falls. The pristine jungle that surrounds the waterfall, which falls across a sheer rock cliff face, adds to the picture-perfect quality of the environment. It’s considered Sri Lanka’s seventh highest waterfall and is part of the Laxapana reservoir, which generates hydropower from a number of power stations in the vicinity.

Laxapana_falls_1

The name Laxapana is attributed with many origins: some versions take its literal meaning of “a thousand lamps” in sinhala, and the fact that this waterfall is part of a hydropower system that lights up many homes; others describe the name as meaning “a hundred thousand stones”, pointing to the rock and boulder strewn path that the water follows before it gushes out in a waterfall. One fact though can be agreed on – the old name for the waterfall was “veddah hiti ella” meaning, the waterfall where the Veddah lived. The Veddah, Sri Lanka’s indigenous people, perhaps had a small colony in this area and lived in the many caves and cliff dwellings in this mountainous area.
